We’re delighted to announce that we were ‘Highly Commended’ in the ‘Trust of the Year’ category at the Health Service Journal (HSJ) Awards, recognising our outstanding contribution to mental and community healthcare across the county. We also celebrated a win for the Data-Driven Transformation Award, which went to the South East Temporary Staffing Collaborative, a project led by our Chief Executive, Julian Emms.

The HSJ Awards is the largest annual benchmarking and recognition programme for the health sector. An unprecedented 1,350 entries were received for this year’s awards across all categories.

Trust of the Year is certainly the most sought-after award, and we were up against eight other leading NHS Trusts who are all achieving amazing things. However, we were Highly Commended for providing great patient care, having the best NHS staff engagement in the country, harnessing the latest technology to improve efficiency, and prioritising a culture of learning to improve patient safety.

In addition, the South East Temporary Staffing Collaborative, made up of 27 Trusts and six integrated care systems, beat off seven other finalists to lift the Data Driven Transformation Award. Our Chief Executive and Chief Medical Officer played a pivotal role in this project, seeing a reduction in temporary staff costs of over £125 million.

Julian Emms, our Chief Executive, said: “We’re proud to have stood out against some serious competition in Trust of the Year category.  We’re already recognised by the CQC as ‘Outstanding’ and the judges were impressed by our ethos of continuous improvement, our culture of inclusion and wellbeing, and our status as one of the top three digitally mature NHS trusts in England.

“However, more than anything, this recognition is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our staff and reflects their significant contributions towards our vision to be a great place to get care and a great place to give care.

“I’m also pleased that I, along with others at Berkshire Healthcare, have been able to work collaboratively on a hugely successful piece of work to improve the system-wide approach to temporary staffing.”

The overall winner of the Trust of the Year category was South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust and we would like to congratulate them on being worthy recipients of the award.
