We're very proud to have won two awards in the following categories at the Business Culture Awards 2022 on Wednesday 5 October:

Best Learning Initiative for Business Culture
Best Wellbeing Initiative for Business Culture

We were also shortlisted for Best Diversity, Equality and Inclusion Initiative and Best Public/Not-For-Profit Organisation for Business Culture.

The Business Culture Awards gives organisations a way to celebrate work which sets up their employees to succeed and thrive in a positive working environment. As part of Berkshire Healthcare’s vision to be outstanding for everyone, we undertook two successful projects to further support staff with disabilities and to create a ‘Just Learning Culture’.

As a trust, we revised and updated our reasonable adjustments policy and put wellbeing initiatives to further promote a positive working environment for employees with a disability. A second project focused on further embedding a ‘Just Learning Culture’ which fosters inclusion and compassion and ensures we take a holistic review of incidents. The success of these projects has led to an improved culture with fewer formal disciplinaries following incidents and high scores in staff surveys.

The judges commented:

"I like how you have used specific metrics to stimulate your initiative and to measure impact while taking a holistic approach which is reflected in overall Staff Engagement. While the specific outcomes are pragmatic and in many senses quite modest (adjustable chair for home-office use etc.) this further underlines that the act of intentionally listening to staff is itself a very powerful thing to do and it seems that from what you say, the benefits to Berkshire Healthcare NHS Trust far outweigh the actual costs of adjustments. Congratulations on your success."

"A high quality approach to culture change; a well thought out mission and set of goals and a real customer focused way of designing and implementing the new approach. Impact is measurable and would also inspire many others in the NHS I'm sure, really well done"
