Are you expecting? Make sure to get your flu vaccine

Pregnant lady icon

When you're pregnant, your body's immune system is naturally weakened and this increases yours and your unborn baby's risk becoming seriously ill from flu.

The risks include:

  • Bronchitis
  • Pneumonia
  • An increased risk of having a miscarriage or the baby being born prematurely or with a low birth weight

Flu is a highly infectious disease caused by viruses that are spread from person to person. The viruses change each year so make sure you're vaccinated annually.

The vaccine can be given at any stage of your pregnancy and is safe for both mother and baby. Please speak with your GP, maternity service provider or local participating pharmacy for your free vaccine.

The best way to avoid getting the flu and protect your baby is by having the vaccination.
