Construction begins on new Diagnostic Centre at Upton Hospital

Groundbreaking celebration marking construction of new Slough Community Diagnostics Centre

Construction has begun on Upton Hospital’s new £25 million Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC). This state-of-the-art facility will transform healthcare access for residents of Slough and the surrounding areas.

Following the demolition of old derelict and unused buildings on the site earlier in the year, building work has now begun, with a projected completion date of late 2025.

A groundbreaking celebration was held on Friday 22 November to mark this major milestone which was attended by Frimley Health and NHS Frimley leaders, local MP Mr Dhesi, Mayor Dhillon of Slough, and construction and estates development partners Western Building Systems Ltd and NHS Property Services, as well as Berkshire Healthcare Medical Director, Dr Minoo Irani.

About the Diagnostics Centre

Run by Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust, the CDC will provide faster and easier access to diagnostic services for the local community. Once operational, it will provide up to 150,000 additional diagnostic tests annually, operating seven days a week for 12 hours each day.

It will have access to the latest technology with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners, computerised tomography (CT) scanners and ultrasounds, and will diagnose and improve outcomes for patients with conditions including cancer and heart disease.

The centre aims to improve people’s health outcomes – by enabling more people to access diagnostic tests more quickly, easily and closer to their home, leading to earlier diagnoses of symptoms and better, more timely treatment.

The CDC is being built on an area in the northwest corner of the Upton Hospital site and will be just a 10-minute walk from Slough railway station and a five-minute walk from nearby bus stops, with on-site parking available for patients.
