Do you want to be a governor?

Vacancy on the Council of Governors

On 15 April 2025, nominations for the Council of Governor elections will open. The deadline for nominations is 16 May. During that time, we’re looking for members of our Trust who want to help influence the future of Berkshire Healthcare and make a difference by becoming governors.

Governors are a vital part of the NHS Foundation Trust mechanism for local accountability. Governors have key responsibilities such as the appointment of the Chairman and Non-Executive Directors on the Board of Directors and the selection of the external auditor.

Governors are not responsible for the day-to-day running of the organisation, which rests with the Trust Board. However, governors have an important advisory role to the Board. For example, the Board must consult the governors on the development of our Annual Plan, which sets out its commitments and priorities for the coming year.

The time commitment varies according to how much you want to become involved, but as a minimum you’re expected to attend the quarterly meetings of the full Council and four informal joint meetings between the Council and the Trust Board.

We’ll be holding governor elections in the following constituencies:

  • Slough
  • Windsor, Ascot and Maidenhead
  • Wokingham

Civica (our membership management provider) run our governor elections and they will be writing to members in each of the above constituencies inviting interested members to nominate themselves as candidates for the forthcoming elections.
