Fellowship to help patients cope with long term health issues
Dr Chris Allen, one of our Consultant Clinical Psychologists, has been awarded a Churchill Fellowship to visit the USA to look at how therapy has been used to help patients cope with physical and psychological problems related to long term conditions.
Each year the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust awards grants to UK citizens in a range of fields to carry out research projects overseas. These projects are designed to exchange ideas and best practices, and build greater understanding between people and different cultures, in order that professions and communities in the UK can benefit from these shared experiences.
Chris says "I am delighted to have been awarded this Fellowship. We've had great results with patients becoming less depressed and anxious, managing their conditions better and needing less help from nurses, GPs and acute services. I look forward to sharing these best practices with my colleagues in America."
