HIV Prevention

PrEP & PEP at The Garden Clinic

At The Garden Clinic, we offer compassionate, confidential sexual health services, including access to HIV prevention options like PrEP and PEP.

We’re here to support you with the right information, testing, and access to prevention. Our team provides a non-judgmental and confidential care or all.

PrEP prevents HIV infection. In the UK, it’s widely available as a tablet which is highly effective when taken consistently and correctly.

It is recommended for people who are HIV-negative but at higher risk of exposure, such as:

  • People with a partner living with HIV who is not on treatment for the infection or whose viral load is not undetectable
  • Men who have sex with men
  • People who have condomless sex with partners of unknown HIV status

Key Points

  • PrEP does not protect against other STIs or pregnancy — so regular STI checks and safer sex practices are still important
  • A brief health check, including blood tests and STI screening, is needed before starting PrEP
  • PrEP can be taken either daily or on demand. You can discuss with your clinician which regimen is best for you
  • Follow-up appointments are every 3 months to monitor health and ensure ongoing protection

Access PrEP

To access PrEP, Book a regular appointment for an assessment and prescription.

PEP is emergency medication taken after a potential exposure to HIV — for example, after a condom breaks or following sexual assault.

Important:

  • PEP must be started within 72 hours (3 days) after exposure — the sooner, the better.
  • It’s a 28-day course of medication that helps stop HIV from taking hold in your body.

Common reasons to seek PEP include

  • Condomless sex with someone who may be living with HIV and not on treatment for the infection
  • Shared needles or injecting equipment
  • Occupational exposure (e.g., a needlestick injury)
